Here is where it all began…

This picture shows our humble beginnings, our home off School Street in Oakland, California. Where I stood to take this picture, used to park a Red VW Bus that our parents bought to haul our little rotten behinds in. But you know what? It was in that red vw bus that we had (Ty & Tim) the best times of our lives. It represented getting out of the house, having fun, fighting in the “back back”, and just plain ole being a family. Thus, our brainchild, RedVwBus.com. A reminder of the good old family days where we as brothers can continue our happiness, fighting, and picking on each other in a modern forum, our internet marketing blog. So sit back, subscribe to our feeds, enjoy our bickering, and passion we have for this field, take a ride with us down Internet Marketing School Street… :)

Why did we start this?

We have a combined nearly 20 years in the IT field, and despite that, when we first started throwing this idea of ‘hooking up’ and creating this company, to say we were intimidated, was an understatement. We both had respectable employment separately, and were building nice careers for ourselves, both in the internet marketing arena, for Ty it began in 2004, Tim in 2006. We were never ‘planning’ on this until we attended Pubcon in 2006 in Las Vegas (after too much Mountain Dew and one of those long session tracks on ‘thinking outside the box’). Anyhoo, after thinking that it would be some time in a fantasy world before we could work consolidate, we went through the whole soul-searching (what can we offer anyway?) and the whole economics of it, and yet, for reasons we still cannot quite explain, the dynamic duo, “Mike and Mike - In the Morning” model beckoned to us.

In the months after we left Vegas, we headed to our respective homes and began gobbling up every Search publication and joined every SEO newlsetter and RSS feed we could find (which quickly overloaded our inboxes). We weeded and searched through the acres of blog posts, talking with each other about the relevance (and often bi-polar opinions on important subjects - leaving us still scratching our heads) hoping to find one thought-provoking article, one provocative post that would help point us in the right direction, or steer us from the wrong ones. — We needed help.

Alas, there was little to be found. Most of what we read — and there were hundredes of articles — contained the “same old - same old”. Every post we read seem to be filled with checklists of things we could do, that may work, reminding me of the already thousands of tasks I had to complete, articles I needed to post, and emails crowding our inboxes. We were not making much headway.

Recently, after much urging by colleagues, family and friends, that we were on to something, we began in earnest to develop our original idea to combine forces, like the Wonder Twins (except without the spandex and masks) and started “To Do” lists to create this company, and our sticky notes quickly turned into a notepad, and that notepad was replaced with … (we are sure you know the feeling). When we boiled things down to just the essentials of what we wanted to accomplish, we realized it had to be more about our readers and less about us.

From this revelation, the real framework for www.redvwbus.com , and www.perspectiveim.com were born.

Someone had to do it. Blogs fat with ads, more links that any human can read, and since this was/is the trend, so many blogs have no incentive to change because they all think that is the norm. (content stuffing without any regard for their readers). Many that we talk with (granted, mostly beginners and ‘newbies’) don’t have time to expand and refine the idea of what it means to make a ‘meaningful’ post, let alone manage their own blog. After all, would blogs be so popular with advertisers if they did dwell on the more ambiguous aspects of real good content provided in a format that best suits you the reader?

Well, at www.redvwbus.com we’re not in the ad business, we are in the search marketing business. Which is not to say that sellings ads is necessarily bad, but our goal is to explore the whole SEO/SEM process, the highs, the lows and the complexities, and bring it to you in a way that makes sense and is immediatley of some valuable use to you. Our hope is that www.redvwbus.com will fill a much-needed niche in our field, that it will be a place for folks like us who have plenty on our minds (and plates) than “hunting for days” for key information to help all of us be a success in our trade.

Oh, one more thing: The phrases “make a fortune,” “buy now” and “act now and be a millionaire” are strictly banned from our pages.
