I could not agree more; personally I'm a republican but I posted a few weeks ago that I felt this election was won online. http://www.leveltendesign.com/blog/chris/2008-presidental-election-was-won-online-not-state-rallies There's the article, nice to see someone took the time to back up my theory with facts.

There's no doubting Obama's projected integrity, but isn't this global hype perhaps a bit too strong?

You bet Social Media put Obama in office!
Now that he's there "Social Media" will help him stay in touch with the "People" ...which is exactly what Obama says he wants.

Great article Ty!

Looove this article Ty!

I agree that social media was part of it but I think a lot of it was exposure and balance. President Obama used one set of channels to reach the older generations and another set of channels for the younger generation...social media included. He was able to get his message a wide variety of people...and that's important for any politician.

Wow, someone on Obama's team knows what they are doing. Further proof that SM is the wave of the future and very effective. Thanks for putting the info together Ty.

Great post Ty. This subject was even referred to in SOMA class today. The power of 'counting', where the visitor feels his input, participation or contribution matters has incredible influence. Your example here show that. At the same time, for one to get involved in social media isn't about a "white house template" for "my website", as if there was the hot trend to jump on and ride the wave.

There is a lot more too it and kudos for spearheading the adoption of the already changed socio economic landscape.

Than you,
It was a fun article to write because I feel so strongly about the energy social media can give, like you said, on a "massive scale."

Hey Ty,
Found your article through Sphinn. Great analysis of the new site. Indeed social media played a big role in Obama's campaign. From funding to reaching out to voters, it seems like it's the new way to hit people on a massive scale. I've started seeing social ads on Facebook for other politicians now too.
